In July I attended the Portable Landscapes conference at Durham University. Durham is a beautiful city and I found myself fascinated by the named rowing boats on the River Wear, and the University itself some of which is located in Durham Castle. I showed the Sea is All Around Us project in my presentation Affictive Cartographies and other conference participants took souvenir postcards and catalogues away and some have now recorded their locations including one from Jerusalem. Along with souvenirs there was a great range of portable objects discussed including mineral collections, maps, postcards, architectural models and religious relics. Seafarers are still scanning their cups and reporting locations including New Dehli, New Jersey, Suva, Port Elizabeth, Laem Chabang and cup #43 has made a long trek through the Northern Territory. This week I hope to visit the Seafarers Centre in Liverpool, UK.
